Boston — At TD Garden on Saturday night, Trent Frederic scored two goals in his third game of the season to lead the Boston Bruins over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Frederic took his place on the second power-play unit and positioned himself in front of the net, hoping for a tip-in or redirect, with James van Riemsdyk no longer in the starting lineup. He was well aware that he had made his first career power-play basket when the Bruins got their first man-advantage of the game.
“I believe it was my first power-play attempt,” Frederic remarked following the victory. “I only take one at a time.”
Frederic made a joke about how this might be his final chance to have the man-advantage and that he ought to have seized the puck to mark the occasion.
The 25-year-old striker has scored 12 goals and added nine assists for 21 points in 38 games this season while playing all over the court and in different lineup positions, including center, back, and wing.
Jim Montgomery, the head coach of the Bruins, stated, “I think his confidence has increased.” “His dexterity with the puck and his amazing hands.” He outscores everyone in practice, with the exception of David Pastrnak.
Because of the type of player he is, he needs to maintain his laser-like focus on his routines, attention to detail, and footwork. That’s what he’s doing. He’s going to keep scoring like he is, I predict.
Montgomery continued, “Frederic saw time on the power play for other reasons besides just not having van Riemsdyk in the lineup.”
