Jin Wong, the assistant general manager and vice president of administration for the Royals, will be joining the White Sox as an assistant general manager, marking yet another shift in the front office. Wong is set to take over for Jeremy Haber, who is departing the company at the start of spring training.
A club source verified that Wong, who helped with player acquisition, contracts, arbitration, payroll, and roster management with the Royals, will be joining the Sox as an assistant general manager/baseball administrator. Additionally, Josh Barfield is new to the Sox as an assistant general manager.
The last nine of Haber’s eleven years with the Sox were spent as an assistant general manager. His function was comparable to Wong’s. Haber will assume a prominent position in the sports industry in the northeast, nearer to his family. Through 2024, he will continue to work with the Sox as an advisor to Getz and the department administration.
Wong becomes a member of the Sox administration with significant ties to the Royals, joining first-year general manager Chris Getz, second-year manager Pedro Grifol, and first-year director of player personnel Gene Watson.
