According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, outfielder Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox has chosen Scott Boras as his new agent. Robert has a deal with the White Sox for at least the next two seasons, and he has two club options that could affect his ability to become a free agent in the future.
According to Spotrac, Robert inked a $50 million, six-year contract with the White Sox in 2020. Before Chicago has a club option on his contract for 2026 and 2027, his salary will be $12.5 million for the 2024 season and $15 million for the 2025 season. If exercised, Robert’s 2026 and 2027 salary would be $20 million per, or the White Sox could buyout those seasons for $2 million.
Robert, who hit a career-high 38 home runs in 2023 along with 20 stolen bases and a slash line of.264/.315/.542 to earn his first All-Star selection, was officially represented by Magnus Sports. Robert, who won a Gold Glove in his debut season of 2020, is a solid defensive centerfield player.
The biggest stars in MLB have signed hefty contracts thanks to Boras. He might assist Robert in talks about a contract extension, but a trade is also a possibility because the White Sox, who finished the season with just 61 wins, might decide to transfer their best player in order to bolster their roster.
Robert, who is 26 years old and in the peak of his career, is not likely to be traded, White Sox general manager Chris Getz said during the MLB Winter Meetings in early December. However, Getz allowed for consideration of a deal that would benefit the White Sox both “short-term” and “long-term.”
According to NBC Sports Chicago, Getz stated, “Luis Robert is a very difficult player to move and expect that your club is going to get better because of it.” Having said that, there may be a club nearby that is prepared to provide you with something you believe will benefit you both now and down the road.
