Brandon Hyde, manager of the Baltimore Orioles, deserves congratulations for being named the 2024 Manager of the Year. Hyde was appointed manager of the Orioles in 2019. Though he did manage one game for the Marlins in 2011, Hyde earned his first managerial position with the Orioles after serving as a member of the coaching staff for two years with the Miami (Florida) Marlins (2010–2011) and four years with the Chicago Cubs (2014–2018).

Before they were traded for prospects at the trade deadline, the Orioles signed a number of talented players from whom Hyde was able to obtain good production. While it’s clear that many of those decisions paid out in the long run and we now benefit from their successful deals, things weren’t much simpler to handle at the time.

After Buck Showalter (2014), Davey Johnson (1997), and Frank Robinson (1989), Hyde is just the fourth manager of the Orioles to receive the honor.
