Joshua Roy was recalled by the Montreal Canadiens from the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League. Roy, a 20-year-old, is regarded as the team’s best forward prospect.
Roy is having an incredible Rockets season. With an astounding 12 goals and 18 assists for a total of 30 points in 34 games, the youngster is presently second in the club scoring standings. In terms of rookie scoring, he trails only Brandt Clarke and Logan Stankoven in the race for the league lead, coming in third.
The Canadiens had plenty of opportunity to bolster the NHL ranks with AHL talent, but they refrained from calling up their highly regarded prospect in the early part of the season. Before throwing Roy to the wolves in the NHL, the plan was for him to establish himself in the professional levels.
Roy got off to a great start in his professional career, scoring 12 points in his first six games. Although that was to be expected for a rookie, he cooled off significantly in the ensuing weeks. However, in his last six games, he has scored seven points.
It has been advantageous for him to drive to high-scoring zones. The Rockets have won seven of their previous ten games, and Roy and Brandon Gignac have been the main forces behind the team’s offensive explosion every night. The Rockets have also recently risen in the North Division rankings.
