Jeremy Swayman stopped thirty-one shots to record his third shutout of the Boston Bruins’ season in Monday’s 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils at TD Garden.
“Every night, shutouts are a team shutout,” Swayman declared. “Obviously, tonight was a fantastic illustration of that. Guys who clear pathways, stop shots, and otherwise make my life easier so that I can see every puck. Additionally, I clearly rebounds, so I believe this is a team effort.”
With two goals and two helpers from David Pastrnak and two assists from Brad Marchand, Boston (26-8-9) won its second straight game after dropping its previous three in overtime or the shootout. Boston had just returned from a four-game road trip.
“After being in three different time zones, that’s not an easy game for us,” Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery stated. “I believe that the energy we had from the previous game, the second and third periods, and our style of play translated into the first [win].” Although we seemed to be running out of gas, we did a great job controlling the game.”
For New Jersey (22-16-3), which has dropped three of its last four games (1-2-1), Nico Daws made 33 saves.

At 7:37 in the first period, James van Riemsdyk looked to have given the Bruins the lead, but the Devils were able to successfully appeal the play for offside.
Thirty seconds into the second half, Charlie Coyle gave Boston the lead 1-0 by backhanding Marchand’s centering feed past Daws.
“There’s always a push for momentum,” stated Devils captain Nico Hischier. “I believe we handled it fairly well and had a few opportunities of our own. We just were unable to locate the net’s back.”
At 19:20 of the second, Devils forward Nathan Bastian had a great opportunity to score, but Swayman made a fantastic pad stop to keep the score at one.
Montgomery remarked, “just his general presence in the crease.” “He’s always had a swagger and confidence to him, but now he really seems to be dialed in as to tracking and his depth in the crease.”
