The left-handed pitcher Jake Eder of Class AA Birmingham and the right-handed pitcher Cristian Mena of Class AAA Charlotte have been selected by the Chicago White Sox, it was revealed.
At the 2023 trade deadline on August 1, Eder, 24, was acquired by the White Sox from the Miami Marlins in exchange for infielder Jake Burger. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound southpaw is listed as the White Sox system’s No. 5 prospect and the eighth-best left-hander in all of baseball by MLB.com. Over the course of two minor seasons, he has gone 5-11 with a 3.80 ERA and 169 strikeouts in 29 starts. 2022 was lost to him recuperating following Tommy John surgery.
Mena, 20, led the White Sox organization in strikeouts, innings pitched, and starts with 27 combined starts for the Birmingham Barons and Charlotte Knights last season, going 8-7 with a 4.85 ERA and 156 strikeouts.
The Dominican Republic native, who was signed by the White Sox as an international free agent in 2019, has spent three minor league seasons with San Francisco de MacorÃs, going 11-17 with a 4.97 ERA and 344 strikeouts in 64 games. According to MLB.com, he is the White Sox organization’s No. 10 prospect.
