Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in U.S. history and an icon in the world of sports, has decided to step into political conversations.

The 11-time Olympic medalist, who clinched gold in the all-around competition in Paris earlier this year, has shared pointed remarks aimed at U.S. political leadership, calling for bold action before the 2024 presidential transition.

Biles, who is married to NFL safety Jonathan Owens, commands a massive audience on social media. With millions of followers, her influence stretches far beyond gymnastics.

This fall, she used her platform to send a direct message to President Joe Biden, urging him to take decisive action before leaving office in January 2025.

“Mr Biden, I need you to stand up, straighten your back and make some things shake before your departure. xoxo the women in america. We deserve better. I’m SO sorry America,” Biles wrote on X.

A history of speaking out
This is not the first time Biles has voiced her opinions on controversial matters. Over the summer, she pushed back against former President Donald Trump’s claim that illegal immigrants were taking jobs from Black and Hispanic Americans.

While Biles’ focus remains on her athletic career, she has also made it clear that she’s willing to use her platform to stand up for issues she believes in.

Now 27, Biles hasn’t ruled out the possibility of competing in the 2028 Summer Olympics, which will take place in Los Angeles. For the moment, though, she’s balancing her commitments to gymnastics with her growing role as a public advocate.
