Former Nebraska wide receiver Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda transfers to South Dakota State

Husker wide receiver Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda found a new home after entering the transfer portal. Garcia-Castaneda announced on social media he is committed to South Dakota State, a team that is entering a new era of football.

The Jackrabbits finished the 2024 season with a semi-final finish in the FCS playoffs and saw major parts of their team depart soon after. Key departures for South Dakota State included head coach Jimmy Rogers and quarterback Mark Gronowski.

Now the Jackrabbits enter the 2025 season under a brand-new coaching staff and a slew of new players, Garcia-Castaneda being one of them. The sixth-year wideout joins South Dakota State following three seasons at Nebraska and two seasons at New Mexico State.

In his three seasons with the Huskers, Garcia-Castaneda earned seven catches for 137 yards and a touchdown. His biggest season with Nebraska occurred in 2022 where he hauled in five catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. He played in all 13 games for the Huskers in 2024, receiving one catch for 10 yards and 11 punt returns for 60 yards.

Prior to Nebraska, Garcia-Castaneda played two seasons at New Mexico State. Across two seasons with the Aggies, he snatched 42 catches for 639 yards and four touchdowns. He transferred to New Mexico State following one season at Saddleback College. There, he caught 56 passes for 953 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Jake, it’s so nice to see you back on a big stage. I remember when I was 14 and I tried to play your solos on the guitar and I never succeeded. Don’t isolate yourself anymore, do it for your many fans around the world.
