Although Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class is off to a fast start, no quarterback commitment has been made as of yet.
Walker White, the #6 dual-threat quarterback for the Rivals, is a 2024 recruit that the Tigers are acquiring. In addition to his ability to throw down the field, he can make plays with his legs. The Little Rock (Ark.) Christian Academy graduate White, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 220-pounds, adds strength to Auburn’s quarterback depth chart.
It is now up to the Tigers to locate a 2025 signal-caller. Auburn has made a recent offer to Cutter Woods, a 2025 passer from Anderson (S.C.) Westside. According to Rivals, he is the best quarterback in South Carolina.
Ramon Robinson, Woods’ quarterback trainer, took some time to talk about his gifted pupil in order to provide some background information. RR Elite Quarterback Academy is run by him.
Given Woods’ growing reputation as a recruit, it would be wise to start with learning about his stature.
“Shoes off, 205 (pounds) and 6-foot-3,” Robinson remarked of Woods. “Maybe 210.”
Robinson is well-versed with Woods’ abilities.
“I’ve been training Cutter since the…I want to say the fifth or sixth grade.”
Woods is still improving as a golfer. Robinson claims that his strongest suit is a crucial component of any team sport.
“At the moment, his leadership is his greatest quality—it’s what every quarterback aspires to have. He is an amazing leader. He goes above and above off the field in a number of ways to support and unite the players. to strengthen that relationship and oneness.
“He performs at a level beyond and above what you would expect from a quarterback in high school. It was a completely different era, therefore neither I nor any other person did the things he was doing in high school.
“He’s operating at a different level at the moment. That’s because his father is a businessman, so Cutter has an aptitude for planning and organizing. She’s the same, his mother. She assists in managing the company. His family is also responsible for a large portion of his development.
Those things go hand in hand with me sharing with him my experiences as a quarterback. What qualities does a quarterback need to have? My training sessions are not limited to that. Along with testing your physical prowess and throwing mechanics, I’m also testing your mental toughness.
“He leads like an absolute pro. Brian Lane, his head coach, will gush over Cutter if you go speak with him.”
Robinson believes that Anderson is coming off of a fantastic 2023 season with a 14-1 record in large part due to Woods’ leadership.
“If Cutter’s leadership was any less than it is right now, then Westside wouldn’t have been in a position to be a state champion.”
Why then is Woods such a strong leader?
“He’s a huge football fan. Many men have little passion for football. He enjoys being the man that steps up to the plate and makes clutch throws.”
There’s a lot of work involved in making those big plays happen.
In terms of coverage recognition, operating both inside and outside the pocket, and versatility, he’s the whole package.
“He’s worked on those things when it comes time to prolong the play. Cutter isn’t the swiftest person. “I need you to extend the play; I don’t need you to run a 4.4 forty,” I tell him every time. He’s been working with running back Brandon Bennett, who happens to be his speed coach. Cutter is now more agile than he was before. Everything has aligned now.
“The throwing, the mechanics, the footwork, and also the strength and agility.”
Even now, Woods is a player who is improving.
“We had hoped for a little bit more movement from him. You can toss from the pocket, as we can see. This year, he accomplished everything I believed he could improve upon in terms of his ability to develop and extend plays beyond the pocket.”
Robinson thinks Woods is capable of even more at the highest level.
“His finest years are still ahead of him, and I believe he can accomplish a great deal in college. He has grown. At the summit of the SEC, I can see his ceiling. Not only in college football, but also in the SEC.”
These are the universities that Robinson states are interested in recruiting Woods.
“Virginia is chasing him down.” He is being actively recruited by Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse. Right now, everything is quite ACC-heavy.”
On February 8, Auburn became the first SEC school to extend an offer to Woods. In addition, he received offers from the three ACC schools already mentioned, Indiana, East Carolina, Wake Forest, Marshall, James Madison, Appalachian State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, and Miami-Ohio, among other schools.
Robinson thinks that a big part of the reason Woods and other prep quarterbacks aren’t getting more early offers is because of the Transfer Portal.
He is, in my opinion, severely underrecruited. There are a number of under-recruited guys in my class. Not only my guys, but all around the nation. Everyone is aware that this has to do with the (Transfer) Portal. Many universities are using the Transfer Portal, but high school quarterbacks are not receiving the appropriate amount of recruiting attention.”
We appreciate Mr. Robinson taking the time to talk about Woods’ qualities as a top recruit.
