Following Tracy Walker’s farewell social media tweet to the team’s supporters, the Detroit Lions cut Walker, according to an ESPN story on Tuesday.
Walker has played for Detroit the whole six years of his NFL career. In 2024, the last year of his deal, he was supposed to bear a $12.82 million cap hit.
“Detroit Walker posted on Instagram, “I want to thank you for accepting me as family and welcoming me in as a rookie.” “Over the past six years, the Ford family has given me the chance to be a part of something truly amazing, and for that I am grateful. I would like to express my gratitude to my followers and admirers for always being there for me. I want to express my gratitude to the city for supporting me. There were many ups and downs, but that’s just a part of life; 90% of what happens to you determines how you react.”
Walker, a third-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft, started as a free safety for the Lions by the end of his rookie year. He suffered an Achilles injury in Week 3, which ended his 2022 season. However, he returned to play in all 17 games during the 2023 regular season, starting six of them.
Walker, 29, finished 2023 with 59 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and two interceptions. He has 398 tackles, three interceptions, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and 23 pass breakups in 79 career games (43 starts).
