Spring training is underway for all Major League teams, and early on, one former Atlanta Braves star is creating waves.
Spring Training in Camelback Ranch featured a Cactus League baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.
Former Braves player Freddie Freeman blasted a home run off the first pitch he saw. Padres pitcher Jhony Brito took the long ball.
Freeman made excellent contact on a Brito-fastball that he saw on the outer corner and drove it over the wall in left center field. His scoring has given the Dodgers a 1-0 lead over the Padres.
Following the game, Freeman told the media that the batting order would be made public shortly, providing answers to some of the queries over himself and newly acquired Los Angeles Dodger Shoehei Ohtani’s positions in the order.
“It should be known in a few days. since it appears that this is Shohei’s first game and that I am playing it too. I don’t care where I hit because I’ve hit in both the second and third.”
Last season, Freeman had 211 hits, 29 home runs, and 102 RBIs while hitting for a.331 average at the plate. The Braves selected him in the second round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. Before agreeing to a contract with the Dodgers, he spent 12 seasons as a player for the Atlanta Braves.
