The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is one week away. As expected, trades are starting to pick up because of it, as Chris Tanev (Dallas Stars) and Ilya Lyubushkin (Toronto Maple Leafs) have found their new homes. As a result, the trade market for right-shot defensemen is starting to decrease in number. Arizona Coyotes defenseman Matt Dumba has been starting to generate a ton of interest around the NHL because of this. According to The Fourth Period’s latest Trade Watch List, the Boston Bruins are one of the handful of teams currently linked to him. TFP also has the Maple Leafs, Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Edmonton Oilers connected to Dumba.
Dumba, 29, is a pending UFA on a Coyotes team that is rapidly falling in the standings. The Yotes are currently sporting a disastrous 14-game losing streak and have crushed their playoff hopes in the process. Due to this, the expectation is that Dumba will get moved by March 8. Dumba would be a strong addition to the Bruins’ roster. He would provide a bit more stability to Boston’s right side due to his steady defensive play and physicality. With that, he would offer them more leadership due to his plethora of NHL experience. If the Bruins acquired Dumba, he would be a clear fit to play on their bottom pairing. A right side of Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo, and Dumba would be stellar. Along with that, he would give them another option for their penalty kill.
