The Dallas Cowboys’ chances of making the playoffs again could very well depend on what happens in the offseason of 2024.
Although Dallas’ upset defeat to the No. 7-seeded Green Bay Packers in a home playoff game will undoubtedly stick with them for a while, the setback can be made up for with a stronger 2024 season.
Dallas’ title-contending window is still open with Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy, but nothing in the NFL is certain, and Cowboys supporters are the last team that needs reminders.
Dallas presently has five picks in the 2024 draft, the highest being the No. 24 overall selection. However, according to Spotrac, the team is a few million dollars over the budget and cannot spend excessively on free agents without freeing up cap space.
The Cowboys may not spend much this season like they did the previous one, but these five free agents seem like good fits:
LB Bobby Wagner of the Seattle Mariners
On defense, the Cowboys could use a reputable veteran. Bobby Wagner, a 10-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowler who also won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, may be that man.
Wagner recorded a career-high 183 tackles in 2023, leading the league in that category. Despite his excellent productivity, he shouldn’t be too costly because he will be 34 years old next season. The Cowboys should add him in addition to Micah Parsons and company if the Seahawks, under their new head coach Mike Macdonald, don’t prioritize his return.
OL Graham Detroit Lions, Glasgow
Dallas is in dire need of offensive linemen who can play right away to shield Prescott and company. Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz may not be able to return in free agency, so Dallas may look to another dependable veteran.
Glasgow, who turns 32 next season, was a member of Detroit’s offensive line that was among the finest in the NFL. His versatility—he can play guard or center—will be crucial. Out of almost 1,000 snaps, he gave up just two sacks in 2023.
Separately, even with his previous history of injuries, keeping Smith feels like a top priority given the dearth of available alternatives.
