Flipped Commitment: Ohio State 5-Star WR Jeremiah Smith Chooses Georgia Over Alabama
In a shocking turn of events, Ohio State football’s all-time best five-star wide receiver commit, Jeremiah Smith, has flipped his commitment from the Buckeyes and pledged allegiance to the Georgia Bulldogs over Alabama Crimson Tide. This move shakes up the recruiting landscape and gives Georgia yet another elite weapon for the future.
Smith, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound dynamic playmaker from Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Florida), was originally committed to Ohio State and was expected to be the next great wideout in their lineage of superstar receivers. However, after months of speculation and heavy recruiting efforts from both Alabama and Georgia, the highly-touted receiver decided to take his talents to Athens instead.
The flip is a major loss for Ohio State and a massive gain for Georgia, who now secures arguably the best wide receiver prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. Smith is known for his elite route running, explosive speed, and incredible hands, drawing comparisons to former greats like Julio Jones and A.J. Green.
According to sources, Alabama made a strong late push to land Smith, offering him a clear path to stardom in their high-powered offense under Kalen DeBoer. However, Georgia’s recent offensive evolution, led by Kirby Smart and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, ultimately convinced Smith that Athens was the best place for his development and championship aspirations.
“This decision wasn’t easy, but after much thought and prayer, I believe Georgia is the best place for me to grow as a player and a person,” Smith stated in his commitment announcement.
With this commitment, Georgia strengthens its already stacked 2024 recruiting class, while Ohio State must regroup and look for other options. Alabama, despite missing out on Smith, remains a powerhouse in the recruiting race.
This high-profile flip will have lasting effects on college football, proving once again that the recruiting battle is never over until signing day.
