Callum McGregor believes winning despite noise and difficulty may help Celtic become stronger.
And the Parkhead captain says the squad will hit reset and return with a hard mentality to grow their desire to be even better. Despite having just led the team to victory in the Double, McGregor is already looking ahead to the next prize. Celtic’s Premiership and Scottish Cup victories were based on both resilience and ability, with major issues raised during the season.
With a slew of new players joining the club and manager Brendan Rodgers returning for a second stint, there were obstacles to overcome, particularly in the early stages. New arrivals had to comprehend the club’s demands and pressures, while significant player injuries at various periods hampered progress. However, now that it has been completed, McGregor can see the benefits as Rodgers and the club plan the next step of the squad’s development.
The skipper said: “I think for the group it will be a positive experience because it has ended well for us. The players have come in, seen the size of the club and what the demands are.
“You are still winning, but not in brilliant style, so there is a little bit of noise. You have to understand that when you are playing at this club you have got to win and you have got to win well. I think we got better as the season has gone one, so the guys who are here, it will be important for them moving forward.
“They have come through a rough experience a little bit, we have finished with two trophies and then next season we have to press the reset button and go again because we can’t rest on what we have done this season. We have to come back in with a strong mentality, working as hard as we possibly can and then see if we can grow this group and build this squad into a really strong squad.”
