BATON ROUGE, LA – Michigan State University Announces $987.2 Million Stadium Project in Honor of Head Coach Tom Izzo

In a groundbreaking move that underscores the legacy of one of college basketball’s most iconic figures, Michigan State University has unveiled plans for a monumental $987.2 million project to build a state-of-the-art stadium in honor of men’s basketball head coach Tom Izzo. The announcement comes on the heels of Izzo’s historic achievement in leading the Spartans to their first-ever national championship in 2023, marking a remarkable milestone in his already legendary career.

This monumental project, which will be the largest athletic facility development in the university’s history, will feature cutting-edge technology, enhanced fan experiences, and a host of new amenities designed to elevate both the game-day atmosphere and the overall MSU basketball experience. The stadium is expected to be a symbol of Izzo’s lasting impact on the program and his remarkable journey with Michigan State.

Coach Izzo’s triumphs have placed him firmly in the annals of college basketball history. In his second season as head coach, he not only led the Spartans to their first national title but also became the fastest coach in Division I history to reach 600 career wins. Achieving this milestone in just 700 games, Izzo surpassed numerous coaching legends and solidified his place as one of the sport’s most successful and respected leaders.

The new stadium project is a fitting tribute to Izzo’s unparalleled contributions to Michigan State basketball. “Tom Izzo has redefined what it means to be a coach, both on and off the court. His dedication, leadership, and tireless commitment to excellence have made an indelible mark on this program,” said MSU athletic director Alan Haller. “This new facility will not only honor his incredible achievements but also serve as a lasting legacy for future generations of Spartan basketball players and fans.”

The project is expected to begin in 2026, with the stadium’s anticipated completion date set for the 2029-2030 basketball season.
