After agreeing to a short-term injury deal with Belfast Giants of the Elite League ice hockey league, Petr Cech will be spending a brief period of time in Northern Ireland. Over the course of a 20-year trophy-filled career, the 41-year-old won four Premier League crowns, five FA Cups, and the UEFA Champions League. However, after retiring, he took up ice hockey. Oxford City Stars of the National Ice Hockey League are his contract holders.
Petr Cech, a former goalie for Chelsea and Arsenal and winner of the UEFA Champions League, has signed a short-term injury cover deal with Belfast Giants, an Elite League ice hockey side.
Over the course of a trophy-filled 20-year career, the 41-year-old won four Premier League crowns, five FA Cups, and the Champions League.
Czech gave up football in 2019 and turned to hockey instead. Up until recently, he was a player with Oxford City Stars in the National Ice Hockey League, England’s third flight.
After joining the Belfast Giants, the reigning league champions, he is now expected to advance – if only temporarily. He can play in their games on Saturday and Sunday against the Sheffield Steelers and Manchester Storm, respectively.
“Coach Adam Keefe of the Belfast Giants stated that Peter is a highly decorated athlete who understands what it takes to compete at the highest level.”
