ONE DEAL: Tucker DeVries Re-Signs With WVU on 4-Year, $68.364M Contract as New General Point Guard

June 25, 2025 – Morgantown, WV

West Virginia University has made headlines across the college basketball and sports world with a blockbuster move: Tucker DeVries has officially re-signed with the Mountaineers on a four-year deal worth $68.364 million, solidifying his role as the program’s new general point guard. The contract comes with a significant guarantee, underlining WVU’s commitment to restoring its place among the NCAA’s elite basketball programs.

DeVries, 23, who originally transferred to WVU in 2024 after an impressive collegiate run at Drake University, has become a cornerstone of the Mountaineers’ basketball renaissance. The deal not only reflects his value on the court but also symbolizes a new era under Head Coach Darian DeVries—Tucker’s father—who took over the WVU program last year.

Sources close to the athletic department confirmed that the contract includes a guarantee clause of $54 million, making it one of the most lucrative deals ever offered to a college athlete under the current NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) structure. The remainder of the package includes performance bonuses, marketing incentives, and an equity partnership with regional businesses that sponsor WVU athletics.

“This is more than just a contract—it’s a commitment to excellence,” said Athletic Director Wren Baker. “Tucker has brought leadership, poise, and elite-level basketball IQ to our program. With this agreement, we’re showing our belief not only in his talent but in the direction this program is headed.”

During the 2024–25 season, DeVries averaged 18.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game, showcasing versatility and maturity that drew national attention. His ability to control the tempo, shoot efficiently from beyond the arc, and create plays for teammates made him a standout in the Big 12 Conference. Scouts and analysts repeatedly highlighted his natural leadership and advanced basketball instincts—traits that now earn him the “general point guard” title at WVU.

While questions circulated earlier this month about whether DeVries might test the NBA Draft waters, his decision to stay reflects a commitment to building something lasting in Morgantown.

In a brief statement on social media, DeVries wrote:
“Morgantown feels like home. I’m grateful for the trust from Coach, my teammates, and this amazing community. We’re building something special. Let’s get to work.”

The Mountaineers are expected to be a top contender in the Big 12 this coming season, and with DeVries at the helm, national analysts already predict a deep NCAA Tournament run.

For WVU fans, the re-signing represents stability, star power, and the hope of hanging new banners at the WVU Coliseum. For DeVries, it’s a platform to lead, grow his brand, and elevate Mountaineer basketball to a national spotlight.

With this deal finalized, all eyes now turn to the court—where Tucker DeVries will look to lead WVU to greatness.

The South African and Olympic gold medallist Caster Semenya has finally won her seven-year legal battle at Europe’s top human rights court (ECHR), which ruled that World Athletics had discriminated against her. The court decision found that the World Athletics sports federation had violated her rights by barring her from competing without giving her a fair trial. The 34-year-old South African runner has been banned from competing since 2019 due to her naturally high testosterone levels. Semenya, a two-time Olympic and three-time world champion, calls this a genetic gift, while World Athletics argues that this might give her a male-like advantage, deeming her participation in women’s sports potentially
