LOYALTY OVER LEGACY: Anthony Elanga Turns Down a $34 Million Offer from Nottingham Forest, Saying “Nottingham Forest Deserves More Than Money”

In an era where professional football often feels more business than sport, Anthony Elanga has made headlines by choosing principle over profit. The 23-year-old Swedish international and former Manchester United winger turned down a staggering $34 million offer from Nottingham Forest, stunning fans and pundits alike. His reason? Loyalty.

Elanga, who joined Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in the summer of 2023, has quickly become a fan favorite at the City Ground. Known for his explosive pace, relentless work ethic, and humble demeanor, Elanga helped the club maintain its Premier League status with several standout performances last season. So when news broke that a major European club had tabled a $34 million bid for his services, many assumed Forest would cash in. Instead, Elanga intervened.

“Nottingham Forest deserves more than money,” Elanga told Sky Sports in a recent interview. “This club believed in me when I needed a new challenge, a new start. You don’t turn your back on that just because someone throws money at you.”

The comment struck a chord with fans, especially in a climate where loyalty often takes a backseat to lucrative transfers and sponsorships. Forest supporters flooded social media with praise for Elanga’s stance, hailing him as a “modern legend in the making” and “a true Red through and through.”

Elanga’s decision is not without sacrifice. The rejected deal would have made him one of the highest-paid players in Forest’s history, and the purchasing club—reportedly from the Bundesliga—offered the promise of European football. Still, Elanga is clear-eyed about what matters to him.

“I’m only just beginning here,” he said. “Forest gave me the platform to rediscover my form and fall in love with the game again. I want to repay that trust—not with words, but with results.”

Manager Nuno Espírito Santo was quick to commend Elanga’s commitment, calling him “a role model for younger players” and a key part of the club’s vision for the future.

“What Anthony has done goes beyond football. It’s about integrity,” Nuno said during a press conference. “He’s shown what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself.”

Elanga’s choice also sends a message to his teammates—and perhaps the wider football world. At just 23, he’s not only developing as a player but emerging as a leader. While agents and clubs often chase short-term financial gain, Elanga is investing in long-term legacy, not just for himself, but for Nottingham Forest.

In football, loyalty can be rare. But Anthony Elanga is proving that sometimes, standing still takes more courage than moving on.

And Forest fans? They’ll be singing his name even louder next season.

Sabbath formed the year I was born, first song I learned on guitar was Sweet L3af, saw Ozzy in ‘82 just after the plane crash, countless Ozfest’s, 1998 reunion show, etc etc….. I’ve seen a lot of fans talking about what band was uninvited, or who didn’t live up to the hype, or which band shouldn’t have been there… I watched the entire show and, for me, the lifetime soundtrack was as touching and meaningful as a McCartney concert…

This just popped up as a memory from my regular page. I believe part of his payment was for the cords to hook up all his pedals. Jake said he had those all hooked up.

Ever since I first heard him on the Bark At The Moon album, I’ve been a huge fan Of Jake E. Lee. I’ve seen him play with Ozzy twice, Badlands once and his solo band 3 or 4 times and have met him twice. He is one of the nicest, humblest people you can ever be lucky to meet.

Jake, it’s so nice to see you back on a big stage. I remember when I was 14 and I tried to play your solos on the guitar and I never succeeded. Don’t isolate yourself anymore, do it for your many fans around the world.
