Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly’readying a bid’ to capture Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer, according to Football Transfers.
According to reports, the Englishman wants to leave the Gtech Community Stadium during the forthcoming transfer window to advance his career. The Bees are reportedly willing to cash in on him as the forward enters the final year of his current contract.
Initially, it appeared that several major English clubs were interested in signing him, including Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea. However, it appears that they have not decided to move further with an agreement to sign him. So Tottenham appears to be the only team interested in signing Toney.
According to Football Transfers, Spurs intend to increase their efforts to sign him and are’readying a bid’ worth around £40 million. According to the source, Spurs are putting together a package to agree on personal terms with the player in order to close the transaction as soon as feasible.
Brentford had previously stated that they wanted around £100 million to sell Toney, but given that he is about to enter the final year of his current contract, it looks that the Bees could accept a lower price. So it will be intriguing to see whether Brentford accepts the Lilywhites’ £40 million proposal if they present it.
Spurs are yet to sign a replacement for Harry Kane, whom they sold to Bayern Munich last summer. However, it appears they intend to do so this summer, as they have been linked with a number of strikers in recent months.
Toney has demonstrated his abilities in the Premier League in recent years, and as a result, he has earned a position on the England national squad. The 28-year-old is an old-school number nine who is great in the air.
He is powerful, quick, can hold up the ball, can link up the play, and has a poacher’s sense inside the box. So, if Tottenham buys him, he will be a fantastic addition to the club.
However, it will be interesting to see if the North London club can eventually acquire his signature during the upcoming transfer season to strengthen their frontline.
