According to L’Equipe, Liverpool and Newcastle United are interested in signing Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo during the summer transfer season.
The striker was sidelined for three months with an ankle injury before returning to the field in March. He finished the season with nine goals and six assists in 25 games.
Liverpool and Newcastle have been keeping an eye on the 24-year-old after being impressed by his performances for Brentford.
His contract runs until 2026, and he is aware that he could’shake up’ the English market during the summer season. That’s because both Liverpool and Newcastle have ‘already expressed interest’ in the Brentford midfielder.
Mbeumo departed Troyes for Brentford in 2019, when the club was in the Championship, and he is now ready to going again.
“I spent five seasons at Brentford, at a club that helped me grow and turn a corner. But yes, I want to play in the biggest competitions, for the best clubs. It’s still exciting to see some of the big teams interested in me. We’ll see,” he said.
The Cameroon international didn’t specify if the interest he received was from the Reds and the Magpies. L’Equipe state the Brentford frontman is ‘ready to join a club the size of Liverpool’, while focusing on further improving his own game.
“I have qualities that I’m not yet fully exploiting. When it comes to the final touch too, I need to be even more killer and decisive,” Mbeumo explained.
“I set up plans with a sports coach. I’m following a virtual reality program that allows me to improve my cognitive abilities. You have to be ready for the seasons to come.”
