Celtic are looking for reinforcements, and talk is rife over who Brendan Rodgers might sign this summer.
The transfer window opens for business this week, so there will be lots of movement in both directions this summer.
The striker position is expected to be a significant talking topic as Rodgers looks to enhance his forward line.
Adam Idah had a terrific loan stay at Parkhead in the second half of last season, but the Republic of Ireland international has confessed that his future is uncertain [Football Scotland].
If Celtic are unable to secure his services, Rodgers may choose a familiar option to add some variety in the final third.
Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheahacho has left Leicester City after six years at the King Power Stadium, joining Marc Albrighton, Wilfried Ndidi, and Dennis Praet [Leicester City FC].
During his six-year tenure with the club, the 27-year-old scored 61 goals and assisted 32 times in 232 games, establishing himself as a beloved figure in the East Midlands.
Notably, Rodgers worked with Iheanacho for four years while the Foxes were in the Premier League, which inspired his 19-goal season in 2020/21.
That was a long time ago, obviously, but at 27, the former Manchester City star still has plenty of years in his prime to get back on the goal trail, and he has a pedigree that would appeal to the Bhoys as they aim to contend across the board.
Rodgers talked of Iheanacho’s abilities in 2021, when he had the best goals per game ratio in the entire Premier League, citing [Sky Sports]: “All the guys love him. Now what you are starting to see is all his qualities. How he receives the ball. His strength. His finishing ability. His anticipation as a striker. You are seeing all of these things now because he is playing with confidence. I am delighted for him.
Known for his clinical finishing, the Imo-born forward may need to move on after his stint at Leicester became stale.
He only scored five goals in the Sky Bet Championship last season, although from ten starts, according to Fotmob. Nonetheless, there is no doubt that he possesses the talent to make an impact in the Scottish Premiership, with the added benefit of experience with Rodgers’ system and his availability on a free transfer.
Whether Celtic could afford his salary is another thing, since the Nigerian is said to make roughly £80,000 per week at the King Power [Salary Sport].
In any case, he is someone worth keeping in mind as the Hoops attempt to build on their remarkable 2023-24 performance.
