Gustaf Lagerbielke believed to be on his way out of Celtic after another Italian club expressed interest in signing him.
The Swedish central defender has had limited playing action since joining Glasgow last summer; but, a January departure was postponed due to an injury crisis in Brendan’s backline.
According to Football Scotland, Lecce and Frosinone will battle for Lagerbielke’s signature. Lecce had been close to signing the midfielder earlier this year, but Celtic cancelled the agreement because they feared Cameron Carter-Vickers had sustained another injury. Celtic appear to be planning to move the 24-year-old following an unsuccessful season at the club.
Lagerbielke signed for Celtic after being suggested by Carl Starfelt’s agent, who had moved to La Liga to join Celta Vigo. The £3 million transfer was believed to be a replacement for his compatriot, with Maik Nawrocki also joining in the summer. However, the Swedish central defender appeared in only ten games and scored once, in a UCL victory against Feyenoord.
Stephen Welsh and Nawrocki are ahead of Lagerbielke at CCV, whereas Liam Scales was Rodgers’ favoured pairing as Celtic won the Double. Hopefully, Celtic can return part of the money they paid Elfsborg last summer.
