Fabio Silva’s Dad, Jorge Silva, reportedly claimed that the Portuguese striker had the option of joining Celtic before signing with Rangers.
In an interview with the Daily Record, Jorge Silva stated, “At first, Fabio had the option of choosing other clubs, including those in Scotland.
“Could he have gone to Celtic? Yes, he could have gone there.
“Many people told him to go there because the way they play is maybe closer to Fabio’s abilities. But he chose Rangers.
“People spoke to us about his religion because he’s a Catholic but Fabio doesn’t show that to everyone. Even so, he told me as his father that he just wanted to play for Rangers.”
Silva received severe criticism from Rangers supporters for his lacklustre performances and frequent diving. The forward’s performance in the 3-3 derby at Ibrox was awful and pitiful, with even his own fans turning against him.
His tenure ended with a difficult exit in which he openly announced his wish not to return to the club. His departure coincided with Celtic’s excellent season, which included winning both the league and the Scottish Cup; I bet he regrets not moving to Glasgow’s east end.
It’s a story of what could have been, but to be honest, I don’t see where he fits into the team. He’s a one-of-a-kind player who would struggle to blend in with Celtic’s strong final third.
