Ian Harte has offered guidance to Adam Idah amid rumours about his Norwich City future.
Ian Harte, a former professional footballer and now a football agent, has urged that Norwich City’s Adam Idah avoid coming to Celtic on loan next season.
Idah had a successful loan stint at Parkhead, helping the club win the Premiership title over rivals Rangers.
The 23-year-old scored eight goals and two assists in 15 games, becoming a fan favourite among the Scottish giants.
Prior to leaving Carrow Road in January, Idah struggled to get consistent playing time with the Canaries.
This has sparked talk that a permanent move to Celtic could be on the cards this summer, albeit a change in manager at Norwich may alter plans for the Ireland international.
Harte believes Idah should take advantage of the fresh start that a new Norwich manager will bring and avoid a permanent move to Celtic.
He believes that remaining with the Norfolk club will be a better stepping stone towards becoming a Premier League player in the future.
“Adam Idah was one of the hottest properties only a few years back, but for whatever reason, it didn’t work out with the manager at Norwich,” said Harte.
“That manager is no longer there now, and he’s gone up to Celtic and scored goals but I’m sure he’s going to be chomping at the bit to get back to Norwich to prove himself.
“It’s a clean slate for all those players at Norwich and he now needs to prove how good he is, have a really good pre-season and come back as fit as he can.
“Not to be disrespectful to Norwich or anyone, but every football player wants to play at the highest level.
“So Norwich could be a stepping stone for him to get back into the Premier League.
“There are some difficult games up in Scotland, but it always seems to boil down to Celtic and Rangers.
“I’m delighted that Celtic won the league because I’m a massive Celtic fan.
“But I think the Premier League is the best league in the world.
“That’s why all the top top-quality players want to come to the Premier League.
“For Adam, he might need to go out and score 20 goals next season at Norwich a bit like Teemu Pukki did and get bought, whether it’s by a Crystal Palace or somebody else, that’s the way he can step up to the plate.”
Norwich missed out on promotion to the Premier League under David Wagner, losing in the play-off semi-finals to Leeds United.
Wagner’s term as manager came to an end with a 4-0 defeat, and the club quickly parted ways with the 52-year-old.
No formal replacement has been confirmed, however Johannes Hoff Thorup is said to be the front-runner for the role.
Compensation has been negotiated with Danish club Nordsjaelland, allowing him to move to Carrow Road ahead of pre-season.
Big decision ahead for Idah
Idah will be able to battle for his spot at Norwich under the new manager, taking advantage of the confidence he must have gained from his Celtic stay to get off to a solid start at Carrow Road next season.
Or he might push for a move and try to secure a permanent transfer to Celtic, where he knows he will be needed and used frequently.
There is no assurance that he will be able to adapt his success in Scotland to English football.
Regardless of what the future holds, the 23-year-old should wait to meet with the new manager and discuss his first-team ambitions before deciding on the next step in his career.
