Todd Cantwell and his Rangers colleagues had a day to forget when they were defeated by Celtic in the Scottish Cup final.
But things appeared to be swiftly deteriorating for the playmaker at the national stadium before to Adam Idah’s late Celtic winner, which came just as he was hooked by Philippe Clement. The Rangers star had a furious discussion with Hoops defender Greg Taylor, who was booked by referee Nick Walsh for a shove on Cantwell in the second half.
The Englishman was angry and appeared to throw a diatribe at Taylor as he went off the pitch at the national stadium after being substituted, earning the Rangers player a booking from referee Walsh. However, some observant fans believe that things could have turned out even worse for Cantwell, with linesman David Roome attempting to issue a red card following the incident.
Following the final whistle, the 26-year-old went to the pitch and spoke with assistant Roome before being escorted away by manager Clement. On X, several fans empathised with the midfielder’s frustrations.
One stated: “I genuinely have no idea why, as a linesman, he’s got a red card out but he was 100 per cent saying to Walsh it was a possible red card. It’s why Cantwell asked him at FT.” Another chimed in: “No wonder Cantwell was going tonto at full time.”
