Chelsea poised for deadly effort to secure Archie Gray deal to Leeds United.
Chelsea’s attempts to capture Leeds United talents Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville are now “even more deadly,” according to LeedsLive.
The internet publication said on July 1 that the Blues can now “ramp up their spending” because the Premier League’s PSR deadline has passed.
This means that the London-based club will have more leeway in terms of what they can accomplish now that they have another year to balance their budget.
Why Leeds United should release Archie Gray this summer.
Over the weekend, there was a huge transfer mystery surrounding Gray’s future.
After visiting the club for his medical, it was assumed that the child would be joining Brentford [Graham Smyth, 29 June].
However, Leeds rejected their offering at the 11th hour, and the transaction appeared to be off.
Then came Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur. The North London club made a similar drive and now appear to be the front-runner for his transfer [David Ornstein, 30 June].
Although it would pain the Whites’ fans to see Gray potentially leave this summer, the reported fee of £40m is a huge amount of money and would allow the club to reinvest.
And, a transfer from Tottenham could open the door for one or both Joe Rodon and Oliver Skipp to make the move to the second tier.
This would improve Leeds’ chances of promotion tenfold and give Daniel Farke’s side the best chance possible.
