Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier achieved a personal milestone as England drew 1-1 with Denmark on Thursday.
Following a terrible showing in their Euro 2024 opener against Serbia, Thursday’s performance was considerably worse. England were quite uninspiring in Frankfurt, and they were unable to maintain the lead that Harry Kane had given them.
Gareth Southgate’s team produced a fragmented performance, but it earned them four points heading into the last encounter. England leads the group heading into Tuesday’s encounter against Slovenia, with qualifying in sight.
That was the only major positive, although Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier had a memorable evening.
As expected, he was deployed as left-back once more in Luke Shaw’s absence, playing the entire 90 minutes in a back four with Toon target Marc Guehi, John Stones, and Kyle Walker.
Trippier made his 50th appearance in an England shirt. That is a significant milestone, which he has remarked on via his official Instagram account.
Following the 1-1 draw with Denmark, Trippier shared a series of photographs from the game and discussed what it meant for him and the team.
The 33-year-old wrote: “It was a proud moment for me to earn 50 caps for England, but as a team, we were unhappy not to get all three points today. We lead our group and are focused on the next game. Thank you for your wonderful assistance.”
Trippier received a response from the captain, and Harry Kane offered him support.
Kane replied: âCongratulations brother.â
Trippier hopes to reach 55 caps by the conclusion of Euro 2024, which would advance England to the semi-finals, final, and potentially win the competition.
But that is absolutely wishful thinking right now, since performances indicate that the Three Lions will not bring football home this summer.
It’s been a truly bad start to the Euros, with Southgate under enormous pressure to improve the atmosphere and get the most out of this extremely gifted collection of players.
