Newcastle United reportedly turned down the opportunity to recruit two Premier League players in a prospective swap deal, with Liverpool offering both Joe Gomez and Jarrell Quansah.
The Reds attempted to entice Newcastle into a deal for England winger Anthony Gordon by include those two defenders, but it now appears that the Magpies are unwilling to take the matter further.
The Telegraph state that Newcastle want to fight to keep Gordon now, having given themselves a bit of breathing space by letting Yankuba Minteh and Elliott Anderson go.
Although NUFC looked under pressure to cash in on some star names this summer, that no longer seems as much of a concern, meaning they will surely keep Gordon and have little need to consider possibilities like Gomez or Quansah.
Liverpool is reportedly still interested in Gordon, so it will be fascinating to see how far they push for the 23-year-old.
Chelsea and Manchester United have already expressed interest in the former Everton teenager, but he is certain to be an important part of Eddie Howe’s long-term plans.
