Newcastle United will compete with Bayern Munich for the services of Burnley star James Trafford.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool and Newcastle United are both aiming to upgrade their goalkeeping positions in the forthcoming transfer window, with both clubs eyeing James Trafford. He is set to transfer following Burnley’s relegation, and both English clubs are interested. However, they will face heavy competition from Bayern Munich for his services.
Trafford was a member of Manchester City’s youth system until joining the Clarets last summer. They paid £19 million to sign the City youth product as their number one in the English top flight. The 21-year-old played in 28 league games before being dropped for the remaining ten due to poor performances.
He had only kept two clean sheets and conceded 62 times. Despite his dismal initial season at Burnley, prominent teams are interested in signing the young English phenomenon because of his immense potential.
With the Clarets relegated to the Championship, Trafford is anticipated to leave, and according to the report, Burnley will be willing to pay roughly £20 million for his departure.
Liverpool and Newcastle United are both interested in signing the teenager. Both clubs see him as an ideal possibility for their second-choice custodian, with the Reds’ first choice being Alisson Becker and the Magpies’ top choice being Nick Pope.
Caoimhin Kelleher is scheduled to leave in the summer, and Trafford might step in as his replacement. Meanwhile, Newcastle are looking for extra protection for Pope, and with Loris Karius’ contract expiring later this month, they consider the former City youth product as the ideal choice to step in.
However, both clubs are expected to face stiff competition from Bayern Munich. Following the appointment of Vincent Kompany as manager, the German giants expressed interest in the 21-year-old.
The former Manchester City captain was in charge of Burnley before moving to Germany; he brought Trafford to the Clarets and now wants him at Bayern. The 38-year-old appears to be aware of his ability and believes he might play an important role for the German club.
