Joao Palhinha, a Fulham midfielder, is set to leave the Premier League in a club record move.
According to Sky Sports, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have agreed to purchase the Portuguese midfielder for £47.4 million. If the deal goes through, it will smash Fulham’s transfer record established last summer when Aleksandar Mitrovic joined Al Hilal for £45 million.
The 28-year-old is now on international duty with Portugal at Euro 2024, having impressed throughout his two seasons at Premier League club Fulham. Palhinha has eight goals in 79 appearances for the Cottagers since his £20 million move from Sporting CP in 2022.
The possible deal also sees Bayern Munich continuing a Premier League import trend, having recruited Harry Kane and Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur and negotiated a £50 million deal for Michael Olise from Crystal Palace.
Olise is yet to be publicly identified as a Bayern player, despite interest from Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Manchester United. The 22-year-old is scheduled for a medical this week, although it has been stated that Manchester United attempted to hijack the trade.
Newcastle, Chelsea, and Bayern were all granted permission to speak with the players’ representation last month. Despite Chelsea finalizing personal terms with Olise last summer, the winger has decided to join Bayern instead.
Olise has already agreed to personal terms on a five-year contract with the Bundesliga club, but the transfer has yet to be formalized.
He will depart Crystal Palace after scoring 16 goals in 90 appearances, including 10 in 19 during the 2023-24 season.
