Chelsea has launched a surprise bid for Newcastle United attacker Alexander Isak, according to Football Insider.
It is understood that Enzo Maresca’s team has approached Newcastle to inquire about its talisman, with the intention of reaching an agreement before the 30 June accounts deadline to comply with PSR requirements.
The Magpies need to raise funds by Sunday to meet financial restrictions, but they don’t want to lose their top striker, which would upset Eddie Howe.
Chelsea is thought to be prepared to provide three players as part of an incredible exchange deal, with Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja, and Trevoh Chalobah potentially making weight in the sale.
Todd Boehly and Chelsea have been far from shy in their transfer dealings since the American’s takeover at Stamford Bridge, and signing Isak would continue that trend.
Chelsea’s late rally towards the conclusion of last season earned the team European football, something Newcastle had been denied owing to Manchester United’s FA Cup victory last month.
Isak could be enticed by the prospect of returning to the European scene, especially if Chelsea can offer him a salary increase at St. James’ Park.
The 24-year-old joined Newcastle in a blockbuster £60 million deal from Real Sociedad in 2022, scoring 35 goals in 67 matches, including 21 in the Premier League alone last season.
Isak has 11 goals in 46 senior Sweden caps, and Newcastle will be keen not to lose their major attacking outlet this summer, along with players Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon.
