Eddie Howe of Newcastle United has had to contend with important players being linked to other clubs this summer.
Prior to the January transfer window, Newcastle did not have to worry about losing big-name players.
Given the club’s improving trajectory following the PIF takeover in October 2021, the majority of the reports inevitably focused on potential big name incomings.
However, with the club operating under FFP constraints, there were speculations that some of its prized assets could need to be sold in order to fund additional investment in Eddie Howe’s squad.
This has persisted throughout the summer.
Indeed, Bruno Guimaraes has been connected with a £100 million release clause in his contract.
Alexander Isak is another player who has been linked with a move, despite the fact that he has stated his desire to remain at St James Park.
More recently, another name has appeared.
Yankuba Minteh impressed on loan at Feyenoord last season and was even dubbed “excellent” by certain teammates. The winger has even been projected to reach “world class” status within the next two years.
The Gambian is yet to play for Newcastle and was apparently scheduled to be inspected by Howe in pre-season.
Minteh, on the other hand, has been connected with some of Europe’s best clubs, despite Newcastle’s reluctance to sell him.
More clarity has surfaced.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg of X (previously Twitter), the 19-year-old has already had several inquiries this summer.
Borussia Dortmund is believed to be interested, with new manager Nuri Sahin allegedly a big fan.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, it appears that Minteh has yet to decide what will happen next season.
Last month, the player’s agent stated: “If he goes to Newcastle, he would give his all. If he goes on loan, he will do his best. He simply wants to play football at the end of the day.
“He doesn’t think too much about it. It’s Newcastle who decide where he’s going to play, but he will definitely do his best. He will try to convince the manager he has a role there. It’s going to be an exciting summer and he’s just going to see what’s going to happen.
“I told him he did what he could with his loan deal so he could not do more and to just mentally recharge for what’s going to happen next season. No matter where you put him, he will try to perform. It’s Newcastle and the manager who will decide if it’s good enough or not good enough. He cannot do anything but play his football.”
