Gareth Southgate stated that Kieran Tripper experienced a cramp in the final minutes of England’s 1-0 victory over Serbia.
Trippier was knocked off in the second half, but England hung on for a narrow victory, thanks to Jude Bellingham’s first-half header, to take top spot in Group C.
With Luke Shaw still working his way back to full health, an injury to Tripper would leave England with little choices at left-back.
Southgate, on the other hand, was optimistic that Tripper’s issue would not be a concern as his team prepares to face Denmark on Thursday.
‘Kieran [Trippier] was just cramp. As far as I know everyone has come through well,’ the England boss told BBC Radio 5 Live after the game.
While England’s second-half display left much to be desired, one player who left with plenty of credit was centre-back Marc Guehi who impressed on his major tournament debut.
‘Really pleased for him,’ Southgate said when asked about the Crystal Palace defender’s performance. ‘I saw the player I have seen every week for his club, positionally he was sound.
Guehi, for his part, was happy with his performance but credited his experienced defence partners for helping him throughout the match.
‘I enjoyed it a lot. It was a great atmosphere and I am just grateful to play with such experienced players,’ he told UEFA.com after the game.
‘They make it easier for me to play in my position and they help me and the team. It is more of a team performance and I am just glad to have top professionals around me.
‘If we are going to go far in this tournament, we are going to have to suffer and it was a great test for us. It is a good learning curve for the team and hopefully we can take it on to the next game.’
