Martin Dubravka, the Newcastle United goalkeeper, is apparently mulling a move to Celtic.
Chris Sutton has persuaded Martin Dubravka to leave Newcastle United and join Celtic this summer.
According to reports, the Glasgow giants are interested in signing the Magpies’ goalkeeper before Slovakia’s Euro 2024 campaign. Former Manchester City shot-stopper Joe Hart retired at the end of the season, leaving Brendan Rodgers looking for a new signing.
Newcastle are also reportedly looking for a new goalkeeper to compete with Nick Pope for the No.1 spot. The Magpies were vulnerable between the sticks in 2023-24, with Dubravka showing symptoms of regression while standing in for Pope.
He has one year left on his contract, and Toon chiefs would be open to bids. Dubravka has been a fixture on Tyneside since 2018, and any fees collected will benefit the FFP/PSR coffers.
Former Celtic striker Sutton pushed Dubravka to return to his former club in a Daily Record article. The lure of Champions League football and Scottish cutlery may also be deciding factors.
āHeās played a lot of games for Newcastle in the last year but isnāt going to be first choice,ā Sutton wrote. āThereās every chance he saw what Hart achieved at Celtic and fancies a bit of that himself.
āDoes he sit tight and ride out his final year at Newcastle as a backup, or perhaps drop down the division inĀ EnglandĀ to get a regular game? Or does he come to Celtic, play every week and be in with the chance of winning silverware, while playing in the Champions League? I know what Iād be doing.ā
