Miguel Almiron’s future is now uncertain, with speculations suggesting he is on the verge of being released, but his agent insists Newcastle United wants to keep him.
Almiron wants to stay at Newcastle after his January transfer to Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab fell through.
Whatever the case may be, there is a good likelihood that other clubs will be looking at the 30-year-old this summer, and journalist Ben Jacobs has come up with an intriguing name.
Miggy may be on his way out of Newcastle United, but Jacobs told the Fully Loaded Transfer Show that he might be given a second chance in the Premier League.
Premier League new boys Ipswich could move for Miggy
Newly promoted Ipswich Town could be interested in the Paraguayan helping them survive their first season back in the top flight since 2002 according to Jacobs.
“I’m told that there is Premier League interest in Almiron as well and Ipswich may be one to watch. Ipswich’s number one priority would be to bring in Omari Hutchison from Chelsea, but you just don’t know, things could change.
“Almiron and Ipswich, that one is one to watch.”
Ipswich returned to the Premier League after back-to-back promotions under Kieran McKenna.
The question is, will Miggy go?
As remarkable as it is, it’s unlikely to be enough to persuade Miggy to make the transfer, especially because McKenna is expected to leave the Tractor Boys for better opportunities this summer.
We’ve been quite critical of Almiron in the past, but we believe this is a step too far down the ladder for Miggy. Sorry to any Ipswich fans who stumble across this; we have nothing against you.
Stranger things have happened in this game that we love so much, and Almiron to Ipswich wouldn’t even break the top 100, but we still can’t see it happening, even though we believe it would be good for both parties. Miggy may become a superstar.
