HITC has learned that, despite connections to other Premier League teams, Newcastle United is moving forward with contract negotiations for a key player this summer.
When Newcastle United finished in fourth place in the Premier League the previous season, Eddie Howe’s team didn’t quite reach the same heights within the organization.
However, the squad struggled greatly the previous season due to the team’s widespread injury crisis, finishing in eighth place.
This would have been sufficient for the Magpies to play Conference League football the following season, but Newcastle will not play in Europe as a result of Manchester United’s FA Cup victory over Manchester City.
Newcastle is nearing a significant contract extension
HITC is aware that negotiations on a new contract for Alexander Isak at Newcastle are moving forward, even though European football might provide a challenge this summer.
Newcastle, who prize their assets highly, is desperate to keep Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, and Isak this summer.
As we previously reported, there is some worry at St. James’ Park that Guimaraes’ Ā£100 million release clause would be activated this summer due to interest from Pep Guardiola’s City.
While Isak does not have a release clause in his contractāand he is also entitled to a new one following his outstanding season last termāGuimaraes does, and Newcastle cannot stop it if it is activated.
The Swedish attacker scored 21 Premier League goals for Newcastle in the previous season. According to the BBC, the Geordie team paid Ā£60 million to sign Isak from Real Sociedad.
Newcastle wants to finalize the agreement with Isak before the season begins
As per our information, negotiations for a new contract between Newcastle and the former Sociedad attacker are now moving forward, as previously reported by HITC.
The club’s goal is to have Isak committed to a new long-term deal by the time the August Premier League season begins.
Isak isn’t one of Newcastle’s most paid players right now, but according to the new agreement, he will be at St. James’ Park’s highest paid player.
Isak was reportedly attracting interest from Arsenal and Chelsea this summer, but Newcastle has stated that the 24-year-old is unavailable and that the team will not even consider making an approach for the Swedish forward.
Isak appears destined to become another striker lost to both teams; they have already lost out on striker Benjamin Sesko, who chose to stay at RB Leipzig.
