This summer’s transfer market for Newcastle United appears to be off to a good start, with favourable news on three potential incomings.
However, not everything goes our way, and it appears that Newcastle may lose Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise to a Premier League competitor.
According to Football Transfers, Olise is a boyhood Manchester United fan – who wouldn’t be, given that he was born in Hammersmith, London? – and if the Red Devils decide to exercise his £60 million release clause, that’s where he’ll want to go.
Newcastle maintains a passive interest in Olise, but no definite plans have emerged to sign the 22-year-old winger.
Newcastle might struggle to compete with Manchester United in this one.
Despite being born in England, Olise represented France at the youth level and has been called by Sky Sports as ‘one of the best young players in the Premier League’.
If Dougie Freedman had taken Newcastle’s job offer, we might have seen a scenario in which Newcastle made a move for Olise, and we might have had a chance to sign him as well.
However, if he is given the option of joining his boyhood club, it is difficult to compete, no matter how disorganised that team is.
Newcastle have looked into Olise and Eze.
Newcastle have also been tracking Olise’s midfield partner, Eberechi Eze, who is expected to depart Crystal Palace this summer.
We doubt the Magpies will make a move for either, though we’d gladly take either or both out of greed.
Especially if it meant that Manchester United did not receive one of them.
