A painful departure: Angel Reese just announce resignation and departure to…

Angel Reese‘s first WNBA season was cut short due to injury, but her performance up to that point was nothing short of historic. She led the league in rebounding with an incredible 13.1 boards per game, the highest average in WNBA history, and shattered other multiple records for rookies and veterans. Reese was well on her way to securing Rookie of the Year honors if not for stiff competition from Caitlin Clark, who delivered one of the best rookie seasons the league has ever seen.

Angel Reese knows that even after a great season, she didn’t live up to the team’s expectations, largely due to her injury. Missing the playoffs – something Caitlin Clark accomplished – left her with unfinished business. This is likely fueling her early preparation for the 2025 WNBA season, as evidenced by the workout videos she’s shared. However, one of her recent posts has fans speculating. Reese uploaded a photo from Miami with the caption, “New Home.”

Why is Reese in Miami if there’s no WNBA team or plans for one? It appears she’s gearing up for the new Unrivaled league, an innovative 3v3 women’s basketball competition featuring six teams and six players per team. The league announced its rosters last week and will run from January 17 through March 17, with all games played in Miami. That probably explains her move – plus, Reese probably prefers the warmth of Miami to the winter chill of Chicago.

That could be one reason – or maybe Reese is dating someone from the Heat or Magic and wants to be close to them. Either way, it’s likely she’s using the time to enjoy Miami before returning to training with the Chicago Sky, who recently named Tyler Marsh as their head coach. Marsh previously worked with the Las Vegas Aces and 3-time MVP A’Ja Wilson, who has a similar physical style to Reese. Marsh has already stated that the team will be built around Reese and Kamilla Cardoso moving forward, a solid plan.

So if you’re in Miami, you might see Reese strolling around town in the coming months. As for predictions for Reese next year, she could make history as the first player to grab 500 rebounds in a season. Why? She pulled down 446 boards last season, breaking Sylvia Fowles’ single-season record of 404. Although MVP A’Ja Wilson eventually surpassed that record, Reese was well on her way to 500 rebounds before her injury ended her season early.
