BREAKING NEWS: Clemson Tiger Football QB Cade Klubnik Invests $3.6 Million to Transform Home Into Shelter for Homeless in Clemson
In an extraordinary act of generosity and leadership off the field, Clemson Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik has announced he is investing $3.6 million of his own money to transform a private estate into a fully operational homeless shelter in the heart of Clemson, South Carolina.
The move comes as a surprise to many, but for those who know Klubnik — a player known for his strong faith, servant leadership, and community engagement — it aligns perfectly with the character he’s displayed since arriving on campus.
“This isn’t about football. It’s about doing what’s right,” Klubnik said at a press conference held on the property that will soon be home to dozens of individuals in need. “I’ve been blessed beyond what I could ever imagine — not just with football, but with a platform. And I believe that platform is meant to lift others, not just myself.”
The property, a sprawling 12,000-square-foot estate on the outskirts of Clemson, was originally purchased as a private residence. Instead, Klubnik plans to fully renovate the mansion and adjacent land into a multi-functional facility that includes sleeping quarters, meal services, mental health support, job training programs, and transitional housing. The new facility will be named “Hope House” and will be open to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the Clemson area and surrounding Upstate South Carolina communities.
Construction is already underway, with Klubnik reportedly partnering with local nonprofit organizations, churches, and civic leaders to ensure the shelter not only opens its doors but operates with long-term sustainability.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, visibly emotional at the announcement, called Klubnik “the kind of leader you dream about coaching.”
“I’ve always said Cade was more than a quarterback — he’s a difference-maker,” Swinney said. “This world needs more Cade Klubniks. What he’s doing is bigger than football, bigger than wins. He’s going to change lives.”
The news has reverberated across the college football world, with fans, players, and analysts praising Klubnik’s initiative. Several high-profile athletes, including NFL quarterbacks and former Clemson stars, have reached out publicly to offer donations and support for the project.
On campus, students and faculty are rallying around the cause. A grassroots fundraising campaign has already launched, with Klubnik making it clear that while he’s footing the initial $3.6 million bill, he hopes the community will join him in building something that lasts.
“This isn’t just a shelter,” Klubnik said. “It’s a second chance, a safe place, and hopefully, a spark for others to do what they can — wherever they are — to help someone else.”
As Clemson prepares for another season of championship-caliber football, its quarterback is already proving he’s a champion in life. Through heart, humility, and action, Cade Klubnik is redefining what it means to be a student-athlete — one brick, one bed, and one life at a time.
