Breaking News: Darryl “Truck” Bryant Announces Retirement at the Age of 39 — A West Virginia Legend Bids Farewell

In a heartfelt announcement that has stirred emotions across the basketball world, former West Virginia University star and international basketball standout Darryl “Truck” Bryant has officially announced his retirement from professional basketball at the age of 39. The beloved guard, known for his grit, explosive scoring, and unwavering toughness, leaves behind a legacy that spans over a decade of impact on and off the court.

Bryant’s journey to basketball acclaim began in Brooklyn, New York, where his tenacity and leadership were evident from a young age. He carried that fire to Morgantown, where he made an indelible mark as a four-year player under Coach Bob Huggins at West Virginia. Bryant was a key contributor to the Mountaineers’ deep NCAA Tournament runs, including the unforgettable Final Four appearance in 2010. His fearless play and vocal leadership earned him the nickname “Truck” — a nod to his power and durability on the court.

In a statement posted to his social media channels, Bryant wrote:

“Basketball has given me the world — a purpose, a platform, and a path. After 20 years of playing the game I love, I’m officially retiring. I gave it everything I had, and I walk away with my head held high, grateful for every moment.”

Though he never made the NBA, Bryant enjoyed a successful international career that took him across the globe. From stints in Italy, Hungary, Israel, and Greece, to standout performances in South Korea and the Dominican Republic, Bryant showcased his talents while becoming a fan favorite in every city he played. He was known for clutch performances, tenacious defense, and his relentless will to win.

Former teammates and coaches quickly flooded social media with tributes. Bob Huggins, his former coach at WVU, said, “Truck was the heart and soul of every team he played for. He competed every night like it was his last, and he made everyone around him better. He’s one of the toughest guards I’ve ever coached.”

Bryant retires with a proud résumé: over 4,000 career points scored across his college and international career, multiple league titles overseas, and a reputation as one of the most respected American guards in European and Asian basketball circuits.

Now, Bryant plans to shift his focus to mentoring the next generation of athletes. He’s expressed interest in coaching, youth development, and continuing his community work in both Brooklyn and Morgantown. He also teased a potential return to West Virginia in a player development or broadcasting role.

For fans of Mountaineer basketball and lovers of the global game, Darryl “Truck” Bryant’s retirement marks the end of a unique and impactful chapter. He leaves behind a blueprint of how determination, humility, and heart can carry a player far beyond expectations.

As he steps away from the court, Bryant’s story will remain an inspiration to young athletes chasing their dreams — especially those who, like him, were told they were too small or too overlooked. Truck didn’t just play the game — he drove it forward.

The South African and Olympic gold medallist Caster Semenya has finally won her seven-year legal battle at Europe’s top human rights court (ECHR), which ruled that World Athletics had discriminated against her. The court decision found that the World Athletics sports federation had violated her rights by barring her from competing without giving her a fair trial. The 34-year-old South African runner has been banned from competing since 2019 due to her naturally high testosterone levels. Semenya, a two-time Olympic and three-time world champion, calls this a genetic gift, while World Athletics argues that this might give her a male-like advantage, deeming her participation in women’s sports potentially
