Breaking News: Exciting News Hits Xcel Energy Center as Former Minnesota Wild Legend Mikko Koivu Returns as Senior Coaching Advisor

St. Paul, MN — In a move that has electrified the Minnesota Wild fanbase, the team has officially announced the return of franchise legend Mikko Koivu to the Xcel Energy Center—this time, not as a player, but as a senior coaching advisor. The news broke earlier today, sending waves of excitement throughout the State of Hockey as one of its most beloved figures takes on a pivotal leadership role within the organization.

Koivu, who spent 15 seasons with the Wild and served as the team’s first permanent captain, brings with him a legacy of leadership, consistency, and unmatched dedication. Known for his elite two-way play, hockey IQ, and quiet intensity, Koivu was a cornerstone of the franchise for over a decade. He retired from the NHL in 2021 and was honored shortly after with the retirement of his iconic No. 9 jersey, the first in Wild history to be raised to the rafters.

Now, in this new chapter of his career, Koivu will be working closely with the Wild’s coaching staff and hockey operations team, lending his expertise in player development, strategy, and leadership cultivation. According to Wild General Manager Bill Guerin, the decision to bring Koivu into this advisory role was a “no-brainer.”

“Having Mikko back in the fold is a massive win for us,” Guerin said in a press release. “He knows what it takes to succeed at this level, he understands our culture, and most importantly, he has the respect of every single player who steps foot in our locker room.”

Koivu’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the Wild, who are in the midst of integrating young talent and recalibrating their roster for deeper playoff contention. His presence behind the scenes is expected to serve as a steadying influence for rising stars such as Marco Rossi, Matt Boldy, and Brock Faber.

“I’m thrilled to be back with the organization that means so much to me,” Koivu stated. “Minnesota has always felt like home. I’m excited to work with the coaching staff and help guide the next generation of Wild players. There’s so much talent here, and I want to do everything I can to help this team reach the next level.”

Fans have already taken to social media to celebrate the news, with many calling Koivu’s return a “homecoming for the ages.” Season ticket holder and longtime Wild supporter Rachel Larson said, “Mikko coming back is like getting the heart of the team back. He’s always been more than a player—he’s a symbol of what it means to wear the Wild crest.”

As the Wild gear up for the upcoming season, the return of Mikko Koivu promises not only a link to the franchise’s storied past but also a guiding hand toward its future. Whether it’s mentoring young forwards, offering insights from his years of NHL experience, or reinforcing the team’s identity, Koivu’s impact will be felt far beyond the bench.

One thing is certain: the Xcel Energy Center just got a little bit louder, a little more passionate, and a whole lot prouder with Mikko Koivu back in the house.

Sabbath formed the year I was born, first song I learned on guitar was Sweet L3af, saw Ozzy in ‘82 just after the plane crash, countless Ozfest’s, 1998 reunion show, etc etc….. I’ve seen a lot of fans talking about what band was uninvited, or who didn’t live up to the hype, or which band shouldn’t have been there… I watched the entire show and, for me, the lifetime soundtrack was as touching and meaningful as a McCartney concert…

This just popped up as a memory from my regular page. I believe part of his payment was for the cords to hook up all his pedals. Jake said he had those all hooked up.

Ever since I first heard him on the Bark At The Moon album, I’ve been a huge fan Of Jake E. Lee. I’ve seen him play with Ozzy twice, Badlands once and his solo band 3 or 4 times and have met him twice. He is one of the nicest, humblest people you can ever be lucky to meet.

Jake, it’s so nice to see you back on a big stage. I remember when I was 14 and I tried to play your solos on the guitar and I never succeeded. Don’t isolate yourself anymore, do it for your many fans around the world.
