Breaking News: Just Moments Ago, Coach Steve Sarkisian Confirms Retirement in Emotional Announcement to Fans and the Public
In a stunning development that has sent shockwaves across the college football world, Coach Steve Sarkisian has officially announced his retirement from coaching. The announcement came just minutes ago in an emotional statement addressed to fans, players, and the entire sports community, marking the end of a long and eventful career in football.
Sarkisian, who most recently served as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns, shared the news via a press release and a heartfelt video message posted on social media. Fighting back emotion, Sarkisian thanked his family, his coaching staff, the players he’s mentored, and the fans who stood by him through every high and low.
“After deep reflection and conversations with those closest to me, I’ve decided that it’s time to step away from coaching,” Sarkisian said. “This decision wasn’t easy, but it’s the right one for me and my family. I’ve been blessed to live out my dream on some of the biggest stages in college football, and now it’s time to begin a new chapter.”
The 50-year-old coach cited a desire to spend more time with his family and focus on his health and well-being as key reasons for his decision. He also acknowledged the emotional toll and demanding nature of the coaching profession, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to guide young athletes.
Sarkisian’s coaching journey spanned more than two decades, with notable stops at USC, Washington, Alabama, and finally Texas. Known for his offensive expertise, Sarkisian played a crucial role in building high-powered offenses and developing top-tier quarterbacks throughout his career. His time as Alabama’s offensive coordinator under Nick Saban helped revive his coaching trajectory, leading to his hire at Texas in 2021.
At Texas, Sarkisian oversaw a major turnaround in the program, leading the Longhorns to a College Football Playoff appearance in the 2023 season, restoring belief and pride to one of the most storied programs in college football. Under his leadership, the Longhorns returned to national relevance, and he helped lay the foundation for the team’s bright future.
The University of Texas released a statement shortly after the announcement, praising Sarkisian’s leadership and contributions: “Coach Sarkisian brought heart, vision, and a championship mindset to our program. His impact goes far beyond wins and losses — he helped build a culture of excellence and integrity. We thank him for everything and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”
Reactions to the news have poured in from players, fans, and fellow coaches. Many of his current and former players took to social media to express their gratitude, with one star player writing, “Coach Sark changed my life. Forever grateful.”
While Sarkisian did not specify what’s next, he hinted at future involvement in football in a different capacity. “I’ll always love this game. I may not be on the sidelines, but I’ll be around — cheering, mentoring, and supporting the next generation.”
As the sports world reacts to this unexpected news, one thing is certain — Steve Sarkisian leaves behind a legacy of resilience, innovation, and inspiration. His contributions to college football will not be forgotten, and his presence will be deeply missed.
