BREAKING NEWS: Indiana pacers former Stars Reggie Miller Invest $20 Million to Transform House Into Shelter for Homeless, less privilege and
As of now, there are no verified reports indicating that former Indiana Pacers star Reggie Miller has invested $20 million to transform a house into a shelter for the homeless or underprivileged. However, Indianapolis is making significant strides in addressing homelessness through a major new initiative.
In late 2024, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority approved a $20 million state grant to fund the construction of the city’s first low-barrier homeless shelter. This funding supplements the $12 million already committed by the city, bringing the total project budget to $32 million .(Mirror Indy)
The planned facility, known as the Housing Hub, will be located near the 1000 block of East Georgia Street in downtown Indianapolis. Designed as a comprehensive support center, the 63,000-square-foot, four-story building will provide 150 private beds across various configurations: 20 family pods, 10 couple pods, and 50 individual units. The shelter aims to offer 24/7 access without common entry barriers such as sobriety requirements, making it more accessible to those in need .(The Reflector, Indianapolis Recorder, WTHR)
Beyond providing shelter, the Housing Hub will serve as a centralized location for various support services. The first floor will house a day center operated by Horizon House, offering amenities like a food pantry and cafeteria. The second floor will feature administrative offices, a housing navigation center, and spaces for government services, including the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the Marion County Public Health Department .
Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2025, with the facility projected to open in early 2027. This initiative represents a significant step forward in Indianapolis’s efforts to combat homelessness and provide comprehensive support to its vulnerable populations .(The Reflector)
While Reggie Miller has not been reported to be directly involved in this project, the city’s commitment to addressing homelessness reflects a broader community effort to support those in need.
