Colorado Buffaloes Football Announces the Departure of Three Key Players

In a significant development for Colorado Buffaloes football, the program has officially announced the departure of three players from the team roster. While the reasons for their exits vary, the news comes as a considerable shake-up for a program that has been undergoing transformation under head coach Deion Sanders.

The players departing are wide receiver Javon Antonio, defensive back Omarion Cooper, and offensive lineman Tyler Brown — each of whom played key roles during the past season and were expected to contribute in 2025. Their exits mark a turning point for a roster that has seen rapid evolution over the past two seasons.

Javon Antonio – Wide Receiver

Antonio, a standout transfer from Northwestern State, was expected to be a central figure in the Buffaloes’ receiving corps. Known for his size, athleticism, and ability to make contested catches, Antonio showed flashes of brilliance during his time in Boulder. However, his time with the team was also marked by inconsistency and limited opportunities amid a crowded wide receiver room. According to sources close to the program, Antonio has opted to enter the transfer portal in pursuit of a fresh start and more playing time.

“I’m grateful for my time at Colorado and everything Coach Prime has done for me,” Antonio shared on social media. “I’m excited for the next chapter and ready to keep grinding.”

Omarion Cooper – Defensive Back

Omarion Cooper, a Florida State transfer, brought experience and physicality to the Buffaloes’ secondary. While he appeared in multiple games and delivered several key plays, Cooper’s time in Boulder was also challenged by the emergence of younger talent in the defensive backfield. With the Buffaloes recruiting heavily at the corner and safety positions, Cooper made the decision to seek a new opportunity where he can secure a starting role.

Cooper’s departure will be felt, especially given his leadership and ability to cover top-tier receivers. His exit opens the door for rising freshmen and new transfers to step up in what has become a highly competitive unit.

Tyler Brown – Offensive Lineman

Brown, who transferred from Jackson State with Coach Sanders, was viewed as a foundational piece on the offensive line. After battling injuries and working to get eligible, Brown’s status remained in flux. Ultimately, he announced his decision to step away from the program, citing personal reasons and long-term health considerations. His departure leaves a gap in both leadership and depth on a line that struggled with consistency in 2024.

Coach Sanders acknowledged the departures with professionalism and encouragement.
“These young men gave their best to this program, and we support them in their decisions,” Sanders said. “This is part of the process — growing, evolving, and doing what’s best for each individual. We’re building something special here, and we wish them nothing but success.”

As Colorado prepares for the upcoming season, these changes mark another chapter in the program’s ongoing rebuild. With high-profile recruits arriving and competition heating up, the Buffaloes are evolving quickly — and these player departures, while impactful, are part of the broader vision to return Colorado football to national prominence.

Sabbath formed the year I was born, first song I learned on guitar was Sweet L3af, saw Ozzy in ‘82 just after the plane crash, countless Ozfest’s, 1998 reunion show, etc etc….. I’ve seen a lot of fans talking about what band was uninvited, or who didn’t live up to the hype, or which band shouldn’t have been there… I watched the entire show and, for me, the lifetime soundtrack was as touching and meaningful as a McCartney concert…

Ever since I first heard him on the Bark At The Moon album, I’ve been a huge fan Of Jake E. Lee. I’ve seen him play with Ozzy twice, Badlands once and his solo band 3 or 4 times and have met him twice. He is one of the nicest, humblest people you can ever be lucky to meet.

Jake, it’s so nice to see you back on a big stage. I remember when I was 14 and I tried to play your solos on the guitar and I never succeeded. Don’t isolate yourself anymore, do it for your many fans around the world.
