Fans React to Jeremiah Smith’s Pained 1-Word Post on Chip Kelly Ohio State Departure
In one season at Ohio State, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has left quite an impression, his length, speed and soft hands paving the way for a 1,315-yards season with 15 touchdowns, both of which led the Big Ten.
He certainly left an impression on OSU offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, the veteran offensive guru who anchored the Buckeyes’ championship-winning scheme this season. Smith just turned 19 in November.
Kelly, of course, has worked with numerous talented pass-catchers before. But the combination of Smith’s skill level and age is something he’d not seen.
Asked about Smith, Kelly said, “As young? No. Not at that maturity level. That approach, those physical young skills as a player, as a freshman, I’ve not seen anybody like Jeremiah, no.”
Now, Kelly will watch Smith develop from afar. That’s because, as part of a busy weekend in terms of sports transactions, Kelly wound up landing a new job that will take him out of Columbus–he will be the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Smith’s affection for Kelly was known immediately. He posted on Twitter/X, in response to a post about Kelly’s departure, the word, “Nooooo,” followed by a broken heart.
Immediately, fans of other programs began attempting to lure him into a transfer.
One Georgia fan wrote, “Come to Georgia actual WRU.”
A Miami fan referenced the team’s new addition, Georgia QB transfer Carson Beck, as well as offesnive coordinator Shannon Dawson: “Carson Beck & Shannon Dawson are looking pretty good right now huh?”
