BREAKING NEWS: Cincinnati Reds Officially Sign Veteran Reliever Scott Barlow to Bolster Bullpen

The Cincinnati Reds have made a significant addition to their bullpen by officially signing veteran right-handed reliever Scott Barlow to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million, which includes a club option for the 2026 season. (MLB.com)

Barlow, 32, brings a wealth of experience to the Reds’ pitching staff. Over his seven-year MLB career, he has appeared in 365 games, all in relief, compiling a 23-21 record with 58 saves and a 3.49 ERA, along with 461 strikeouts in 387 innings pitched. (Reuters, Spectrum News 1)

In the 2024 season, Barlow played for the Cleveland Guardians, where he posted a 3-3 record with a 4.25 ERA and 68 strikeouts over 55 innings in 63 appearances. Despite a dip in performance, the Reds are optimistic about his potential to rebound and contribute significantly to their bullpen depth.(Inside The Diamonds)

Barlow’s most notable seasons came during his tenure with the Kansas City Royals in 2021 and 2022, where he emerged as one of the American League’s top back-end relievers. During those two seasons, he achieved a combined 2.30 ERA and recorded 40 saves across 140 appearances. (Reuters, Last Word on Sports)

The Reds’ decision to sign Barlow aligns with their strategy to strengthen the bullpen with experienced arms. His addition provides manager Terry Francona with a reliable option for late-inning situations and adds depth to the relief corps. Barlow’s experience as a closer and setup man offers flexibility in high-leverage scenarios.

To accommodate Barlow on the 40-man roster, the Reds placed right-handed pitcher Julian Aguiar on the 60-day injured list. Aguiar is expected to miss the entire 2025 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in October 2024. (Reuters, Spectrum News 1)

Barlow’s journey to Cincinnati follows a series of team changes. After his stint with the Royals, he was traded to the San Diego Padres in August 2023 and then to the Cleveland Guardians in November 2023. The Guardians released him in September 2024, making him a free agent. (redlegnation.com, MLB.com)

With this signing, the Reds aim to enhance their bullpen’s effectiveness and stability as they prepare for the upcoming season. Barlow’s track record and experience are expected to play a crucial role in the team’s pursuit of success in the National League Central Division.

Sabbath formed the year I was born, first song I learned on guitar was Sweet L3af, saw Ozzy in ‘82 just after the plane crash, countless Ozfest’s, 1998 reunion show, etc etc….. I’ve seen a lot of fans talking about what band was uninvited, or who didn’t live up to the hype, or which band shouldn’t have been there… I watched the entire show and, for me, the lifetime soundtrack was as touching and meaningful as a McCartney concert…

This just popped up as a memory from my regular page. I believe part of his payment was for the cords to hook up all his pedals. Jake said he had those all hooked up.

Ever since I first heard him on the Bark At The Moon album, I’ve been a huge fan Of Jake E. Lee. I’ve seen him play with Ozzy twice, Badlands once and his solo band 3 or 4 times and have met him twice. He is one of the nicest, humblest people you can ever be lucky to meet.

Jake, it’s so nice to see you back on a big stage. I remember when I was 14 and I tried to play your solos on the guitar and I never succeeded. Don’t isolate yourself anymore, do it for your many fans around the world.
