Good bye fans am leaving but promise to never return Marc-andre fleury announce…..

Here’s a 500-word piece written in the style of a farewell announcement by Marc-André Fleury:

“Goodbye, Fans – I’m Leaving, But I Promise to Never Return”
By Marc-André Fleury

To my teammates, coaches, and most importantly, the fans – this is the hardest message I’ve ever had to write.

Today, I’m officially announcing my retirement from professional hockey. After over two decades in the NHL, it’s time for me to hang up the pads, step away from the crease, and begin the next chapter of my life. This isn’t just a goodbye to the game—it’s a farewell to a journey that has shaped me as a player, a teammate, and a person.

I want to start by thanking every fan who ever cheered for me—from Pittsburgh to Vegas to Minnesota. You’ve been there through every sprawling save, every emotional win, and every heartbreaking loss. Your support lifted me up when I stumbled and kept me going when things got tough. You made me feel like I was part of something much bigger than myself. I’ll carry that with me forever.

From the first time I laced up my skates in the NHL back in 2003, to hoisting the Stanley Cup with the Penguins, to being selected by Vegas in the expansion draft and helping that team defy every expectation—we’ve shared some incredible memories. I’ve seen the game change. I’ve seen myself change. But what’s remained constant is the love I’ve had for the game and the gratitude I’ve felt every time I stepped on the ice.

But now, after deep reflection and honest conversations with my family, it’s time. My body has been whispering it for a while, and recently, it’s been shouting. It’s not an easy decision—hockey is all I’ve ever known. Yet, I feel peace. I leave the game with no regrets, only cherished memories.

I know some may hope I’ll reconsider one day. That maybe, if a team calls in need, I might return for one last run. I want to be clear: this is it. I’m not coming back. I’ve given the game everything I had—my heart, my energy, and my soul. It’s time to give that same dedication to my family, who stood by me through long road trips, playoff stress, and everything in between.

I’ve made lifelong friendships. I’ve had the honor of playing with and against legends. I’ve worn the jersey with pride and carried the torch for the next generation of goalies. To the kids watching—dream big. Work hard. And never forget that hockey is a game meant to be loved and enjoyed.

This isn’t goodbye to the people—I’ll still be around. Maybe not behind the mask, but hopefully behind the bench, in the stands, or wherever the game takes me next.

Thank you for everything. The saves. The smiles. The support. This chapter ends, but the memories will live on.

With love,
Marc-André Fleury
