LOCKED IN: RJ Davis Formally Accepts Los Angeles Lakers Four-Year Contract Re-Sign, Staying with the Team Until 2029
In a blockbuster move that sends a strong message across the NBA, RJ Davis has officially accepted a four-year contract re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, keeping him in the purple and gold until the end of the 2029 season. The announcement was confirmed today by Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka during a packed media conference at the team’s training facility in El Segundo.
Davis, who joined the Lakers last season as an undrafted sensation out of North Carolina, has quickly emerged as one of the brightest young stars on the roster. After a standout rookie campaign, where he averaged 18.3 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game, Davis became a fan favorite with his fearless drives to the basket, clutch three-point shooting, and relentless perimeter defense.
The Lakers front office wasted no time locking Davis in for the long term. The reported deal is valued at approximately $72 million over four years, with performance bonuses and incentives that could push the total value even higher. For a player who entered the NBA with questions about his size and durability, Davis has answered critics with poise, consistency, and an undeniable work ethic.
“This is where I want to be,” Davis said during the press conference. “The Lakers believed in me when a lot of people didn’t. This city, this organization, and these fans have shown me so much love. I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent this franchise for the next four years and beyond.”
Rob Pelinka emphasized Davis’s character and leadership as major factors in the decision. “RJ represents everything we want in a Laker. His commitment to getting better, his ability to perform under pressure, and his team-first mentality made this an easy choice for us. He’s part of our core going forward,” Pelinka said.
Head Coach Darvin Ham also praised Davis, describing him as “one of the most coachable and hungry players I’ve worked with.” Ham added, “RJ shows up every day ready to work. He’s a fighter. He’s earned every bit of this contract.”
Teammates also took to social media to congratulate Davis. Lakers superstar Anthony Davis tweeted, “Let’s keep building bro! Congrats on the bag 💰🔥 #LakersFamily.” New Lakers signing and veteran guard Fred VanVleet also chimed in on Instagram, calling RJ “one of the best young guards in the league right now.”
The Lakers are currently restructuring their roster around a mix of veteran leadership and young talent. With LeBron James nearing the twilight of his career and Anthony Davis expected to take on a bigger leadership role, RJ Davis is now viewed as one of the central pillars of the Lakers’ future.
Fans have responded with overwhelming support, flooding social media with highlight reels, congratulatory messages, and excitement for the coming seasons. With this re-signing, the Lakers not only retain a rising star but also secure a key piece of their backcourt for years to come.
As RJ Davis himself said best, “The journey’s just beginning. Lakers Nation, let’s make history together.”
